Most Google TV devices are confined to a small “dongle” form-factor, which naturally limits their speed, power, and flexibility. They work just fine, but they’re kind of slow and clunky, which isn’t really ideal if you’re the kind of person who wants to take full advantage of Google TV’s capabilities. You know, like voice control, instant app switching, gaming, and so on.
But Google TV Streamer 4K is a flagship product. It needs to be powerful and responsive, so it uses a relatively spacious (yet surprisingly svelte) set-top design. Google loaded this thing with some excellent components—it’s got 4GB of RAM (twice that of the previous Google TV Streamer), plus an upgraded processor, a generous 32GB of storage, and an Ethernet port for a more stable internet connection.
As you’d expect, this set-top box supports 4K video, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos audio. But it also allows you to wirelessly Cast video from your phone, laptop, or tablet, and it offers deep integration with Google’s smart home ecosystem. You can even use the Google TV Streamer 4K as a Matter hub or Thread border router—it can act as the heart of your smart home, in other words.
I should reiterate that the Google TV Streamer 4K rarely goes on sale. According to CamelCamelCamel pricing data, this is the sixth Google TV Streamer 4K discount to occur since the product’s August 2024 launch. We might see another sale on Black Friday, but I doubt that the price will fall below $75.
