Sony has removed more than 700 low-quality games from the PlayStation Store, in what could be one of the platform’s biggest shovelware cleanups to date. The purge mostly affects PS4 and PS5 digital titles from a small group of ultra-prolific publishers that pushed out dozens of near-identical, low-effort releases, Games.gg reports.

Nostra Games has been named as the primary targeted publisher, with roughly 80–90 game removals. A second publisher, CGI Lab, also saw its catalog vanish from the store. The affected titles tend to have very short or trivial gameplay, heavy asset reuse, and AI-generated art or other content.

Sony has not provided a detailed public explanation for the removals, so our best guess is that they’re part of an overall effort to improve quality and eliminate quick cash grabs. Criticism of “AI slop” on digital storefronts has been increasing across genres and industries, which may have informed the push.

On its Discord channel, Nostra Games said Sony delisted its catalog without a clear warning or explanation. The publisher added that it plans to keep bringing its games to Xbox, the Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

Sony is just one console maker to tackle low-quality content and spam on its e-store. Xbox did something similar in August last year, and Nintendo is actively working to reduce the amount of “eSlop” appearing on the Nintendo eShop.
