The MacBook Pro doesn’t really need an introduction; it’s Apple’s flagship mobile offering with a gorgeous 14-inch Mini LED display that’s still the benchmark for this tech. It gives OLED a run for its money thanks to the 2,554 local dimming zones. The device is entirely milled out of CNC aluminum, giving it a very premium and hefty feel. The large haptic touch trackpad, keyboard, speakers, webcam, microphones, and more are all class-leading, with no corners cut when it comes to laptop fundamentals.
Inside, this unit is rocking a base M4 chip with 10 CPU cores and 10 GPU cores. The memory has been upgraded from 16 GB on the base variant to 24 GB here, along with a storage bump from 512 GB to 1 TB. You don’t need us to tell you how valuable both of those upgrades are right now. In our review of the device, the M4 aced most benchmarks and posted over 18 hours of battery life in a simulated usage test. We complained that the RAM and storage pricing were “absurd” at the time, but the tables have since turned.

Apple hasn’t changed anything besides the chip (and features associated with it) in the MacBook Pro for the last few years. That means you can get most of the same benefits as the latest M5 laptops in previous generation’s M4 offerings, with a nice discount. As spec’d, this configuration would run you $2,000, and Apple doesn’t even sell it on its website anymore, so the $1,690 price tag on Amazon is a great deal for anyone looking for a premium laptop.
