Paul McCartney was allegedly banned from Reddit after sharing photos and videos from a recent performance.
Over the weekend, the 83-year-old former Beatle hosted two shows at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood. The shows were much smaller than his typical sold out arenas with around 1,200 concertgoers and celebrities like Taylor Swift, Owen Wilson, Margo Robbie, and John Hamm in attendance.
These performances were no-phone shows complete with organizers requiring attendees to seal their devices in a Yondr pouch upon entry, leaving fans who weren’t lucky enough to secure a ticket in the dark.
In the spirit of generosity, McCartney uploaded a Dropbox link with exclusive pictures and videos from the concert in the r/PaulMcCartney subreddit. Shortly after, his account was banned.

There have been several theories circulating about why this happened.
Initially, users theorized that McCartney’s account and concert link were removed from Reddit because they violated the platform’s rules about self promotion. Unlike social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, Reddit has strict anti self-promotion rules. “You should not just start submitting your links—it will be unwelcome and may be removed as spam, or your account will be banned as spam,” one of the rules reads. “Why? Because reddit is a community, not a platform for self-promotion.”
By uploading concert footage to the link, McCartney was likely breaking this rule without realizing it.
