Nintendo has updated the Switch eShop with system update 22.5.0, introducing a long-overdue app-like experience that more closely mimics the Switch 2 eStore.
The update replaces the old browser‑based front end with a new native client. Users now see a darker store layout with the Basic Dark theme, while banners, carousels, and product pages feature cleaner typography and artwork, helping reduce clutter during browsing.
There’s a security add-on as well. Primary users and parents can now set a PIN requirement before the eShop opens and lock the use of saved payment methods behind the same verification, giving tighter control over purchases on a shared console.
The update further tweaks media playback so that trailers and other full‑screen videos now support 10‑second skips backward and forward using the ZL and ZR buttons.
This update directly addresses users’ long-standing speed concerns. That said, Nintendo has only modernized the interface itself; nothing about the underlying catalog has changed, including the high volume of low‑effort games that appear in search results.
