We’ve been hearing for a while now that Apple is working on a standalone Siri app with improved, AI-powered capabilities. Now, leaked screenshots of the app reveal just how well the upgraded Siri might compete with ChatGPT, Gemini, and other chatbot assistants.
The new Siri app will sit alongside existing Apple apps and serve as a central hub for text-, voice-, document-, and image‑based “conversations,” Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. Users will see a chat‑style interface with a history view of past conversations, similar to most AI chatbots out there.
“Apple has redesigned Siri for modern iPhone hardware, making it live inside the Dynamic Island as an always-on agent that can help users get things done across the operating system and within apps,” Gurman writes. “The system can draw on web data, personal information, and what’s on a user’s screen to complete tasks.”
The app is said to offer privacy controls, including the ability to auto‑delete conversations after 30 days or one year. (Users can also elect to keep Siri conversations indefinitely.) Apple seems to be counting on these features to set Siri apart from rival chatbots.
Under the hood, the new Siri system will likely run on a mix of Apple’s own models and Google’s Gemini, with Apple routing queries through its Private Cloud Compute system to limit data collection.
Together, these changes should allow Siri to act more like a full conversational assistant that can understand context, act across apps, and more, rather than just a basic voice shortcut layer, which is clueless more often than not.
The Siri overhaul will sit alongside other Apple Intelligence tools, which add AI‑generated writing, summarization, and content assistance across apps like Mail, Notes, and Messages.
