Mozilla has published an interactive public roadmap revealing what’s next for Firefox. Though the roadmap is ever-evolving and will include new plans as they’re announced, it’s already got some exciting stuff.
Firstly, from a productivity POV, Mozilla plans to incorporate a “Nova” design refresh featuring a more modern user interface. Firefox recently introduced a redesigned settings page and has started rolling out tab groups on Android; iOS support is coming later this year. Mozilla is working on features like curated link sharing, picture-in-picture mode for web pages, and more.
Jumping to security, Mozilla is working on a free, built‑in VPN for mobile that mimics the one introduced on desktop last year. A private window with one‑click cookie clearing, native containers that help keep work and personal logins separate, ad and tracker blocking on iOS, a blocked‑tracker dashboard, breach alerts, and anti‑fingerprinting protection are also on their way.
Mozilla has also laid out upcoming AI options. A “Smart Window” mode will sit alongside classic and private windows and use AI to help people understand pages and compare information, with an opt‑in model and controls that let users limit it or turn it off. A “Quick answers” tool will let people ask questions by voice and get short text responses with sources.
Lastly, the roadmap lists performance work like QUIC and IPv6 prioritization, a resource monitor, a power‑saving mode on mobile, and new web platform support, including WebTransport, HDR video, JPEG XL, and new CSS capabilities.
