Your showerhead probably has a little plastic or rubber piece inside called a flow restrictor. It’s there to limit how much water comes out and meet government water conservation rules. These things definitely save water, but they can also kill your water pressure. If your pressure already isn’t great, a flow restrictor makes it worse. I figured removing mine was worth a shot.
Just take the showerhead off the arm, look for that little restrictor near the connection, grab some needle-nose pliers, and yank it out. Then, put everything back together, and the pressure should be better.
But here’s the catch: you might not be allowed to remove it depending on where you live. Some places have laws that require these things, so taking them out could technically break building codes. Look up your local rules first. And even if it’s legal, think about the environmental impacts.

The water softener didn’t help much. White crusty buildup still covered my showerhead. Clogged holes meant uneven spray and weak pressure. I’d clean it, and a week later, I’d have the same problem.
The usual way to descale is soaking everything in white vinegar. You can take the whole showerhead off or just tie a vinegar-filled bag around it overnight. Vinegar’s acid eats away the calcium and lime pretty well.
It worked, but man, I got tired of doing it. Every few weeks, I’d spend three hours unscrewing that thing with a wrench, soaking it, scrubbing it. A week passes, and I’m right back where I started. Same weak spray, same frustration. Along with keeping my shower door and bathroom mirrors clean, this was becoming too much. Something had to change because this wasn’t a real fix.
