All but rolling his eyes and doing a spit take, Mark Cuban had a little fun Saturday ridiculing Elon Musk’s contention that AI and robotics will someday make human labor unnecessary.
The former Shark Tank star sank his teeth into Musk’s early-morning proclamation on X—“Working will be optional in the future”—by posting a tongue-in-cheek rendering of a “Risk factors” disclosure, a prospectus staple that identifies specific events or circumstances that could negatively affect a business’ financial health or stock price.
For example: tax risks. “In the event our prediction that work will be optional is actualized,” Cuban wrote, posing as Musk, “we expect local, state, and federal governments to institute new and unpredictable taxes, including a robot utilization tax, a token utilization tax, and who the f–k knows what else.
“This could completely change the economics of our industry,” he noted, “and impact our ability to be profitable and offer shareholder returns.”
Cuban then channeled Musk to point out unironically that in an AI-driven stock market it’s feasible NASDAQ’s infrastructure “may not be able to implement AI effectively, impacting whether or not our stock can be traded.”
“As a backup plan we have chosen tokenization on the new Grok blockchain that Grok created, and will go live at the point it is needed” he added, a jab at the AI assistant developed by Musk’s company xAI.
Cuban’s coup de grâce was filed under “disclosures”: “This prospectus was created in a human, AI partnership, with 87 percent of the words presented in the prospectus generated by Grok.”
