On Monday, Chirayu Rana, a former investment banker for JPMorgan Chase refiled a lawsuit alleging that a senior-ranking female colleague at the bank had sexually assaulted him. However, it appears that the bank attempted to settle the suit earlier this year.
In March, JPMorgan offered $1 million to Rana to settle the sexual assault and harassment claims, according to The Wall Street Journal. However, Rana ultimately didn’t accept the offer—and reportedly countered with $11.75 million.
“We did try to reach an agreement to avoid the time and expense of litigation and to support an employee who was being threatened with the very reputational harm now unfolding,” a JPMorgan spokesman said in a statement to The Wall Street Journal. “We continue to believe these allegations have no merit and new information raised as a result of the public filing only reinforces that conclusion.”
The accusations allege that during Rana’s time at JPMorgan, his colleague, named as Lorna Hajdini, sexually assaulted him. Hajdini’s lawyers have denied the claim. Rana also claims that he was subjected to racial discrimination while at the firm.

Rana’s case recently went viral after news reports covered the allegations. AI-generated videos of Rana and Hajdini started to appear on social media, animating the scenarios and dialogue that was reported in the lawsuit. Rana’s credibility has been called into question over the past week by a number of public figures, including podcaster Joe Rogan.
The months-long saga began in May 2025 when Rana filed an internal complaint with JPMorgan’s human resources department, alleging that colleagues had made racially-based remarks regarding his Nepalese background and that he was sexually assaulted several times by a colleague. According to the suit, he was subsequently placed on paid leave while the bank conducted an internal investigation.
Ultimately, the bank’s investigation didn’t find any specifics that corroborated Rana’s claim, The Wall Street Journal reported. In October 2025, Rana left the bank to start a new role at a private equity firm, a position he was let go from last month.
