Back in May 2024, Amazon revealed that they’d ordered a new Tomb Raider TV series for Prime Video, from none other than “Fleabag” writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge and co-showrunner Chad Hodge. Fast-forward to January 15, 2026, and the streaming service marked the beginning of production by sharing a first-look photo at lead star Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones”) in costume as Lara Croft.
While we don’t have too much more info about the series, save for a cast list that also includes the likes of Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Bill Paterson, and Celia Imrie (among others), it’s safe to say that excitement for the series is already building, and if you’re looking to stream something with a real sense of adventure in the meantime, I’ve got you covered.

What to stream while you wait for Prime Video’s ‘Tomb Raider’ series
‘Relic Hunter’

While researching this list, I stumbled across “Relic Hunter,” and this series pretty much sounds like the perfect show to hold you over until “Tomb Raider,” precisely because it sure sounds a lot like “Tomb Raider” in more than just its name.
“Relic Hunter,” for the uninitiated, is a Canadian adventure series that ran for three seasons, from 1999 to 2002, and documents the work of American archaeologist Sydney Fox (Tia Carrere). Together with her British assistant Nigel Bailey (Christien Anholt), Sydney is tasked with finding and recovering all manner of missing or stolen artefacts, tangling with rival hunters and all kinds of complications in the process. It’s not a show I’m personally familiar with, and it isn’t the best-reviewed series around, either — it’s sitting at 63% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter — but it definitely has its fans, from what I’ve seen on Reddit. And seeing as “Relic Hunter” is free to stream online right now, it just might be the perfect watch to fill the time.

The ‘Indiana Jones’ movies

If there’s one set of pulpy adventure movies to watch to hold you over until “Tomb Raider” arrives, it’s Indiana Jones’s.
Yeah, they might be the most obvious recommendation I could possibly make, but these five features will offer just about everything you could want: action galore as a daring hero (Harrison Ford) delves into humanity’s past, taking on fearsome foes, dodging traps, cracking fiendish puzzles, and getting into plenty of scrapes. AKA: pretty much everything you could want from a Tomb Raider adventure, barring Croft herself. All five are currently available to stream on Disney+, and if you watch right through to “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” you’ll even get to see “Tomb Raider” showrunner Phoebe Waller-Bridge jet off on an epic journey of her own, to boot.

You could quite easily sub in Angelina Jolie’s two “Tomb Raider” movies — both of which are streaming free on Pluto TV at the time of writing — if you’d prefer, as if you’re keen to see Sophie Turner step into Lara Croft’s boots, I presume you’d at least be somewhat interested in seeing how Hollywood has tackled the Tomb Raider franchise up till now.

Roar Uthaug’s 2018 adventure movie saw Alicia Vikander taking on the Croft mantle for a more grounded reboot of the movie franchise that takes cues primarily from the 2013 video game reboot. It sees a less experienced Lara Croft leaving everything behind and following in her missing father’s footsteps on an action-packed journey to a mythical island. It’s a quest with potentially devastating stakes, and one that sets her on the path towards becoming the hero we all know her to be.

Looking for another TV show to scratch the “Tomb Raider” itch? Netflix recently brought us an adult animated series featuring Marvel and “Mission: Impossible” star Hayley Atwell as the voice of the titular character.
Picking up after the events of the “Survivor” trilogy of games, this Netflix series charts Lara’s next chapter, wherein she has abandoned her friends in favor of increasingly dangerous solo adventures. When a thief steals a powerful Chinese artifact from Croft Manor, she gives chase and heads off on what becomes a daring pursuit around the world, one that takes her to the depths of forgotten tombs and sees her tackling more ancient mysteries.

‘Uncharted’ (2022)

I know that Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg weren’t necessarily fans’ No. 1 choices for Victor Sullivan and Nathan Drake, and yes, we’ve certainly seen far more successful video game adaptations in recent years. However, as a filmic translation of some of the beloved PlayStation action series’ many stunning setpieces, I think the “Uncharted” movie still works well enough, and it should still offer adventure-starved viewers some thrills to tide them over before “Tomb Raider” comes to Prime Video.
If you’ve not seen it, “Uncharted” sees street-smart Nathan Drake recruited by treasure hunter Victor Sullivan to head off in search of a lost fortune amassed by Ferdinand Magellan. It’s a mission that continues to spiral out of hand, and sees them deciphering clues and thrown into a race against time to find the treasure before their ruthless rival, Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas).
