What happens when a middle-class family is thrust into high-class wealth? Well, that’s the interesting plot of The Hardacres – created and written by Call the Midwife writers Amy Roberts and Loren McLaughlan – which is now back for a second season, free to view on Channel 5 in the UK.
The latest iteration will continue to follow the family in the very British 1985 setting as they navigate their newfound wealth and make sense of the high-class society they now find themselves in, while also getting accustomed to everyday things such as, well, electricity.

Most interesting of all, however, is the arrival of one Lady Imelda Hansen (Michele Dotrice), the mother of their neighbour Emma (Cathy Belton). Simply put, she’s not ready to accept outsiders into her high-class world – and she could prove to be the biggest threat the Hardacres face in season two.
