Apple has finally rebuilt Siri into “Siri AI,” a version of its assistant that uses Apple Intelligence to run more conversational and context-aware tasks across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. The company says Siri AI can handle follow-up questions, keep context in a single thread, and respond with richer, web-backed answers on many topics, making it functionally similar to other mainstream AI chatbots and assistants.
For the first time, Siri will have its own dedicated app that stores conversation history by syncing it across devices via iCloud. On newer iPhones, Siri appears in the Dynamic Island, and users can swipe down to switch from a quick interaction to a full chat view.
“Onscreen awareness” allows Siri to respond to what’s on display, like a text thread or a document, and tap into information from apps including Messages, Mail, and Photos when users ask for it.
Siri AI now integrates with more actions across apps, including third-party applications that use Apple’s App Toolbox. There’s also Visual Intelligence, which lets Siri analyze what the camera sees or what appears in a screenshot to do things like split bills or describe items.
Apple runs much of Siri AI on the device using its new Apple Foundation Models and uses its Private Cloud Compute when it needs more power. The new Apple Foundation Models run on Google Gemini models.
The company says these cloud requests protect users’ personal data and do not give Apple access to user content.
