Apple’s first smart glasses appear to have slipped to a “late 2027” launch window, and a cheaper, lighter Vision Pro successor (informally dubbed Vision Air) is now expected around late 2028 or 2029.
The glasses, internally known as N50, will serve as Siri- and Apple Intelligence‑powered eyewear that competes with Ray-Ban Meta, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Like other smart glasses, these are designed for everyday use and feature built-in cameras, microphones, and speakers. Most importantly, they’ll work closely with the iPhone.
The first iteration will skip an integrated display and rely on audio, camera imagery, and AI. Reports indicate that Apple is testing several frame styles, including the trademark frames worn by departing Apple CEO Tim Cook.
On the headset side, Gurman says Apple is developing a cheaper, lighter follow‑up to the Vision Pro, which may be called Vision Air, for late 2028 or 2029. This product is said to have a slimmer design and a lower price than the current Vision Pro, which costs $3,499 in the US. Unsurprisingly, that eye-popping price tag hasn’t really helped the Vision Pro achieve popularity.
If released, the Vision Air will sit above the AI glasses in terms of immersion and display tech, but Apple reportedly wants it to offer better comfort and a price that appeals to a wider audience. Past rumors also suggested that, for most computational tasks, this budget headset will connect to a Mac for processing.
