Apple launched iOS 26.5.2 this week to protect iPhones from AI-driven attacks. This update includes multiple fixes that were previously planned for the upcoming iOS 26.6 but were ultimately deemed more urgent due to the growing role of AI in hacking.
iOS 26.5.2 fixes nearly 30 security issues, mainly in Safari’s web engine. These bugs could allow harmful websites to corrupt memory, share data between tabs, and more. Some vulnerabilities affect the core of iOS and iPadOS, allowing apps to access restricted data. While Apple hasn’t detected any attacks exploiting these flaws, it’s better to be safe than sorry, and users are urged to install the update as soon as possible via Settings.
Both cybersecurity researchers and hackers now consider AI a valuable part of their toolbelt, making the task of keeping devices safe even more complex. While researchers use automated tools to find browser vulnerabilities, attackers can use similar methods to create exploits.
The early release of iOS 26.5.2 could signal a shift in how Apple distributes its software updates. In a statement to Reuters, an Apple spokesperson said the brand is “adapting to the reality that, given the ability of artificial intelligence to speed the development of malicious hacking tools, it needed to reduce the time between when updates were first made public and when they were put into customers’ hands.”
