An amazing adaptation
Based on the bestselling novel by Sally Rooney, Normal People is a miniseries that not only launched careers but was also critically acclaimed. The miniseries follows the lives of Marianne and Connell, two seemingly different students at school who form an unlikely friendship and, later, a relationship that changes their lives forever, from high school to college and beyond.
The miniseries ran for 12 episodes and is considered a strong book adaptation, mainly because of the chemistry between Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal. Their performances are still talked about years later, cementing them as the core of this miniseries.

Witherspoon and Washington shine
Based on Celeste Ng’s novel of the same name, Little Fires Everywhere is a great example of how to adapt a book properly.
The miniseries, starring Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, tells the story of how a picture-perfect family and their lives intertwine with a mother and daughter who change everything.
You might think that’s barely anything to go on, but Little Fires Everywhere is the kind of miniseries best experienced without spoilers. It’s a drama filled with twists and turns, making the eight-hour binge worthwhile.
The Act
A harrowing true story
The Act is personally one of my favorite miniseries on Hulu, and I’m honestly pretty sure it was the first one I actively watched each week when a new episode came out.
Starring Patricia Arquette and Joey King, The Act is based on the true-crime story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and the murder of her mother, Dee Dee, as well as digging into the real abuse that Gypsy went through and how the demise of her mother came to be.

Keep in mind that it’s an adaptation of a real story, so some liberties have been taken to dramatize the story. That’s always the case with these shows. However, a lot of what happens in this show has been verified, and the performances of both Arquette and King were critically acclaimed—Arquette even won the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series award at the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards.
Mrs. America
The stories of American women
Taking place over nine episodes, Mrs. America is the type of miniseries for those who love politics, drama, and learning about the women who shaped America, mainly through stories told from the feminist movements of the 1900s.
The series examines multiple major figures in politics, including the prominent conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly and her campaign against feminism, as well as Gloria Steinem, Shirley Chisholm, Jill Ruckelshaus, and others.

For the sci-fi lovers
If you like sci-fi, the director Alex Garland, and Nick Offerman in dramatic roles, then you’ll love Devs. This series tells the story of a software engineer for the quantum computing company Amaya, but she is tangled in the mystery of her boyfriend, who suddenly and mysteriously dies on his first day as part of the Devs team at Amaya.
This is a Hulu series you can binge in one weekend. With only eight episodes, it’s the perfect show that will lure you in with mysteries from the very beginning, and you’ll keep clicking next episode just to know what happens next.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of Garland’s work, so I know the story will always be great. But Offerman’s performance is really the shining star here.

The Patient
Carell steals every scene he’s in
Lastly, I wanted to point out The Patient. Starring Steve Carell, this psychological thriller miniseries is absolutely amazing. The basic premise is that Carell plays a therapist who is held captive by a serial killer who wants to stop killing and looks to the therapist for help.
Isn’t that a truly wild premise? Already, I’m into it as a mystery reader. But honestly, if the premise didn’t lure you in, Carell’s performance is truly the best part of it. There’s just something so interesting about watching a mainly comedic actor take on a dramatic role, and he does it expertly.
Now that your weekend is officially booked with some amazing miniseries, it’s time to go out and buy some popcorn. I’m ready for a marathon.
