Hulu is a great streaming service to use for your next weekend movie marathon. Not only does it regularly add originals and classics to its library, but, because it’s owned by Disney, it’s the streaming home for new releases from several Disney-owned studios. It also has deals with some other studios to get in new releases before any other service, even when it’s not a Disney-produced film.
This weekend, I have three movies recently added to Hulu that are a must-watch. “Keeper” is “Longlegs” director Osgood Perkins’s latest film, and it just arrived on Hulu this week. Another recent movie that just arrived is “Kneecap,” an excellent Irish comedy-drama about the Emerald Isle’s most famous rap group. Finally, I’m taking you back to 2001 for a Steven Spielberg science fiction film that was originally set to be directed by Stanley Kubrick. With a new sci-fi flick incoming from Spielberg later this month, this movie will be a perfect warm-up for “Disclosure Day.”

Genre: Folk horror movie
What’s it about? “Keeper” stars Rossif Sutherland and Tatiana Maslany as Maclolm and Liz, a couple set for a weekend trip to a secluded cabin. But once Malcolm’s cousin (Darren Westbridge) and the cousin’s girlfriend unexpectedly arrive, things quickly take a turn. After Liz accidentally consumes a potentially drugged cake, things then go from bad to worse.

Why you should watch it: Osgood Perkins’s follow-up to “The Monkey” got mixed responses from critics and audiences alike. But it does feature Maslany, who puts on an admirable performance by all accounts, and what it lacks in cohesion it makes up for with more than a few thrills.

‘Kneecap’ (2024)

Genre: Biographical comedy-drama movie
What’s it about? Some of you might be familiar with the Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap, especially after this biopic launched the group into another level of stardom. It’s part insightful examination of life for the generation of Irish in Belfast that grew up after the Good Friday Agreement, part love letter to the Irish language, but 100% worth a watch.
Why you need to watch it: You’ll need to turn on the subtitles for this movie’s Irish dialogue, and not just because of the accents. Irish as a language is integral to the purpose of this movie, as well as the purpose of Kneecap’s music itself. This film was a critical darling when it came out in 2024, and once you watch it, you’ll know why.

Genre: Science fiction movie
What’s it about? “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence” is set in a futuristic society and centers around David (Haley Joel Osment). He’s an artificial child programmed with the ability to love, and intended as a surrogate son for Monica (Frances O’Connor) and Henry (Sam Robards), but things get complicated once their real son (Jake Thomas) is unexpectedly cured of a possibly terminal disease.
Why you need to watch it: With “Disclosure Day” right around the corner, there’s no better time to dive into a Steven Spielberg sci-fi movie. This one holds a special place in Spielberg’s canon as well, as it was originally intended to be a Stanley Kubrick film, until the legendary director handed it off to Spielberg in 1995.
