Google Pixel users have been reporting battery issues after the April 2026 update, but thankfully, Google says it’s working on a fix.
Those with the Pixel 6 series and up—AKA the models powered by the Tensor chipset—say their phones now drain battery much faster than before. People are noticing significant drops in screen-on time, increased overnight battery drain, and devices getting warm in pockets or on desks. These signs indicate activity in the background, as reported by PCMag.
The problem may relate to the CPU waking too often when the screen is off, but Google hasn’t confirmed what exact software change causes this behavior. The company has acknowledged the issue on its support channels and on its official bug‑tracking system, and it’s collecting logs from affected users to diagnose the problem and build a patch.
There is no public timeline for a fix yet, but one is expected to arrive in an upcoming monthly update—hopefully in May.
In the meantime, if you’re experiencing poor battery life or overheating, you can try activating Battery Saver, enabling Adaptive Battery, lowering your phone’s refresh rate, and reducing display brightness to limit strain on the battery. You can also turn off 5G and use your phone on either 4G or Wi-Fi.
Users should also review their app‑level consumption and uninstall or restrict any app that uses an unusually large share of power. A buggy app can also cause such issues, so experts say careful monitoring of app behavior remains vital until Google releases a fix.
