How I’m using this $13 smart plug to automate my house with voice commands

For only $13, this little smart plug lets you control your household devices with your voice through Alexa or the app on your phone. Priced with a 48% discount through the Amazon Prime Day 2026 sale, you can now snag this Amazon Smart Plug and start living a little more comfortably.

Also: The best early Amazon Prime Day deals

Though I have several brands of smart plugs around my house, I got my first Amazon smart plug a few years ago during a Prime Day event and use it daily. It connects one of my bedroom lamps to power, so I ask Alexa on our Sonos Era 100 or Echo Show 8 to turn it on and off. I fell in love with this bedroom lamp at a thrift store years ago, so a smart plug was the perfect way to make it smart.

I’ve also set up routines on the Alexa app so it automatically switches on each day at dusk and off, along with the rest of the main bedroom lamps, when I say, “Alexa, good night.”

My other Amazon Smart Plug controls a grow light for my houseplants, so I never have to worry about turning it on in the mornings or forgetting to switch it off at night. This is especially convenient for keeping my houseplants lush and healthy even during winter.

The best thing about adding a smart plug to your home is the ability to use it on dumb devices you can’t or don’t want to replace, like fans, lamps, coffee makers, and holiday lights. You can use this Amazon Smart Plug with your coffee maker and turn it on from your bed, run it automatically at the same time each morning, or ask Alexa to make you a cup of coffee.

Also: Amazon has slashed this Blink 5-camera bundle by nearly $200 – and I highly recommend it

The Amazon Smart Plug is an indoor-only device that connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks. It works exclusively with Alexa, making it incompatible with other home automation systems. It’s the perfect companion to an Echo device in an Alexa smart home, giving you voice and app control over devices that typically don’t support it.

    How I rated this deal

I’ve only seen the Amazon Smart Plug drop to $13 during past Prime Days or Black Friday week. This is the lowest price I’ve seen for this smart plug, and since we’re still a few days away from Prime Day 2026, it’s a great deal.

This year, Amazon Prime Day runs from Tuesday, June 23, to Friday, June 26, 2026. The sales event used to take place in the second week of July, but Amazon moved it forward by a few weeks in 2026.

With Amazon Prime Day coming up, this deal will likely run through June 26, 2026 — but there are no guarantees.
