Hundreds of readers preordered the Fitbit Air with this deal – here’s why

Since we shared this preorder offer on the new Fitbit Air last week, several hundred ZDNET readers have scooped up the bundled savings (note that your privacy is protected; we only have access to aggregate data from our user base, and there is no way for us to identify individual people’s purchases). The Fitbit Air will officially become available on Tuesday– just one day after the Memorial Day holiday. That means now is the time to grab these preorder bundle deals while you still can.

Also: Every preorder offer on the new Fitbit Air

Here’s why our readers can’t get enough of this deal.

The Fitbit Air was announced earlier this month as a direct rival to the popular Whoop band. Unlike the Whoop, the Fitbit Air is cheaper, subscription-free, and comes in a variety of colors. There are some other differences, though, and ZDNET’s wearables editor Nina Raemont has already put the two head-to-head on specs. The Fitbit Air is definitely geared toward a more mainstream audience, as opposed to the serious athletes that Whoop targets.

Several retailers are carrying preorder offers right now, letting you nab the wearable plus a band of your choice (a $35 value) totally free. Instead of paying around $135 for your setup, you can get it for just $99.

While Amazon’s bundle is our readers’ favorite one to shop right now, the savings can also be found at Best Buy and the Google Store. But there are some caveats. Best Buy only has the $99 offer live for the Obsidian color, while the Google Store is offering the most selection, with a discount on Fog, Obsidian, Lavender, and Berry. Similarly, Amazon carries the discount in Berry, Lavender, and Obsidian.

The Steph Curry special edition style (Rye) is only available at Best Buy and the Google Store right now, but for $130, not $99.

    How I rated this deal

Based on ZDNET’s deal-rating system, this 26% off deal should be a 3/5 deal, but since the product hasn’t even been officially released yet and you’re already snagging a discount, I rated it a 4/5.

    When will this deal expire?

This deal lasts during the preorder period for the Fitbit Air — so up until May 26. After that, the deal will likely expire. At the Google Store, the preorder offer ends on May 25.

How do we rate deals at ZDNET?

We aim to deliver the most accurate advice to help you shop smarter. ZDNET offers 33 years of experience, 30 hands-on product reviewers, and 10,000 square feet of lab space to ensure we bring you the best of tech.

Last year, we refined our approach to deals, developing a measurable system for sharing savings with readers like you. Our editor’s deal rating badges are affixed to most of our deal content, making it easy to interpret our expertise to help you make the best purchase decision.

At the core of this approach is a percentage-off-based system to classify savings offered on top-tech products, combined with a sliding-scale system based on our team members’ expertise and several factors like frequency, brand or product recognition, and more. The result? Hand-crafted deals chosen specifically for ZDNET readers like you, fully backed by our experts.
