Microsoft has reportedly scrapped its Gaming Copilot AI plans for Xbox consoles and the Xbox mobile app. Xbox had previously said that Gaming Copilot would come to Xbox Series X and Series S later in 2026 after initial availability on PC, the Xbox mobile app, and handheld devices.
And, now with the change in the leadership, and as announced by the new Xbox CEO, Xbox will now wind down Copilot in the mobile app and stop work on bringing it to consoles, so players should not expect integrated Copilot assistance on their Xbox systems.
Gaming Copilot is an AI assistant that helps with in‑game help by answering questions about anything regarding the games, like quests, bosses, crafting, and even offers personalized game recommendations. Xbox positioned it as a tool that lets players ask questions, like how to progress in a level or what resources they need to craft items.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma says Copilot features “don’t go well with where we’re headed,” and uses them as an example of products that the gaming division will phase out as it refocuses on other priorities. The new CEO is already turning out to be a fan favorite, as ever since her appointment, the company has reduced game pass subscription prices and dropped the branding from Microsoft Gaming to Xbox.
For the overexcited Copilot haters, this change applies only to Gaming Copilot on Xbox and does not mean Microsoft is stepping back from Copilot in Windows, Office, or other products.
